Drawing of the separate levels

At the smallest level,Level -1,
(where the 1/2 note has been arbitrarily chosen for the shortest notes),
we start on the Beat and, of course, end on the Beat.
The two longer notes (1/1 "whole" notes ) are drawn on the Beat all the way through.
At the next larger level,Level 0,
(1/1 "whole" note, twice as long),
we start on the Off-Beat and, of course, end on the Beat.
The longest note of the melody is not longer than the beats of this level,
which confirms the fact that we are at Level 0.
Notice the regularity of the shape of the cells.
At the next larger level,Level +1,
(2/1 "double" note, twice as long),
we know that all large levels start on the Off-beat - no more surprises.
The 2-note pick-up will not appear in these graphics of separate levels.
Still the same shape of cells.
At the next larger level,Level +2,
(4/1 "quadruple" note, twice as long),
once again we start on the Off-beat,
          without the pick-up.
Still the same shape of cells
The bar-linesare placed at Level -1 (in 2/2, or 4/4, time).
However, for the sake of clarity, only the bar-lines of Level 0 are solid,
the others, for Level -1, are dashed.
Notice that, at Level 0, there is half a bar before the first bar-line and half a bar at the end.

It is interesting to note that for any level,
both its Beats and its Off-Beats will be found in the next smaller level
but only its Beats will be found in the next larger level.

Drawing of the integrated levels

All the levels have been put together.

You might enjoy passing from one drawing to the other several times, to see how the drawing of the integrated levels conserves all the information of the drawing of the separate levels.
